Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with battery start-up Factorial Energy, has unveiled a prototype EQS vehicle featuring a solid-state battery, marking a significant milestone as the 'world's first' solid-state battery vehicle from a major automotive manufacturer. This innovative battery technology is expected to provide a remarkable range of 620 miles (approximately 1,000 kilometers) on the WLTP cycle, outperforming the existing EQS 450+ by over 25%. In addition to increased range, solid-state batteries offer advantages in weight, efficiency, and fire safety compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, paving the way for broader applications in electric vehicles.
