Man arrested and 840k of cocaine seized after gardai intercept vehicle in Cork

A man has been arrested and €840,000 of suspected cocaine seized after a vehicle was intercepted in Cork on Wednesday, December 18. As part of an intelligence-led national operation, gardaí stopped a car travelling southbound on the M8 motorway at Glanmire.
Following a search of the vehicle, 12kg of suspected cocaine was discovered, with an estimated street value of approximately €840,000. The driver, a male in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and detained at a garda station in Cork city under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
