Lando Norris rules out asking McLaren for team orders to assist him in F1 finale
"Both he and his teammate, Oscar Piastri, insisted they had not yet discussed the potential use of orders for the decisive grand prix. Norris goes into the 24th and final race of the season as favourite but still in a close, high-pressure fight with Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Piastri, enjoying a 12-point lead on Verstappen and 16 on Piastri."
"No, not been discussed, he said. Honestly, I would love it. But I don't think I would ask it. It's up to Oscar if he would allow it. I don't think it's necessarily down to me. It's the same if it's the other way around. Would I be willing to or not? Personally, I think I would, just because I feel like I'm always like that and that's just how I am."
Lando Norris enters the season finale in Abu Dhabi as favorite with a 12-point lead over Max Verstappen and a 16-point lead over teammate Oscar Piastri. Norris would clinch his first world title by finishing ahead of both rivals or by placing third or better. Verstappen can win the championship only by winning the race while Norris finishes off the podium. Piastri would need a win plus Norris finishing sixth or lower. Norris says he would not ask McLaren to impose team orders requiring Piastri to cede position, calling such a request unfair. McLaren says it lets drivers race freely but has enacted pre-agreed interventions when required.
