Kia Is Perfectly Fine With The EU's 2035 Combustion Engine Ban
Briefly

Kia has initiated production of the EV4 in Slovakia and states a plan to reach full compliance with the EU's 2035 ban on new internal combustion engine vehicle sales. Kia Europe CEO Marc Hedrich emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving 100% compliance by 2035 and contrasted that position with industry leadership statements. The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association and CLEPA wrote to the European Commission saying current circumstances, including rising competition from China and U.S. tariffs, make the proposed emissions tightening "no longer feasible" and requested broader allowances for hybrids, high-efficiency combustion models, and hydrogen vehicles. Both associations affirmed commitment to net-zero by 2050.
That is the same guy who, a few years ago, promised his company would only sell EVs in Europe by 2030," said Kia Europe CEO Marc Hedrich.
We have a plan to achieve 100% compliance in 2035," Kia Europe CEO Marc Hedrich said last week, quoted by Automotive News, as the automaker began manufacturing the EV4 electric model at its factory in Slovakia.
In their letter, the two organizations said that under the current circumstances, with growing competition from China and mounting tariffs from the United States, it is "no longer feasible" to achieve the hardening emissions rules.
