Inside Cadillac's F1 journey: Our Silverstone shakedown was a miracle'
"Everyone has worked their ass off the last months. For us to do our shakedown in January in Silverstone that was for me a miracle. When you put that in perspective, what an achievement for a team from a standing start. It's difficult to explain how many hundreds of people you need. How many thousands of pieces you need to first design and then manufacture."
"There are so many things in the car that can go wrong. It's just so much work from everyone to get here. It's really important to try to put that across, because people just hear: Oh, it's a new team' and assume that was a relatively simple thing."
Cadillac, backed by General Motors, has accomplished a remarkable feat by entering Formula One as a completely new constructor startup, building their team from scratch in approximately one year since formal approval at the 2024 Las Vegas GP. Unlike Audi, which took over the existing Sauber team, Cadillac represents the first entirely new constructor entry since Haas joined a decade ago. The team, led by principal Graeme Lowdon, began with an empty room, a screwdriver, and basic planning. Drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez bring experience to the effort. Bottas emphasizes the extraordinary complexity involved, highlighting the thousands of components, hundreds of personnel, and countless potential failure points requiring coordination. The team will use Ferrari engines until 2029 when General Motors will produce their own power units.
