Starting this weekend, speed limits on many rural roads will decrease from 80km/h to 60km/h. The Irish Road Hauliers Association (IRHA) argues that such changes necessitate proper enforcement of existing limits rather than new restrictions. Additionally, the IRHA supports the installation of black boxes in young drivers' vehicles to monitor their speed and driving habits, suggesting that insurance companies should be involved. IRHA president Ger Hyland expressed concerns about the impact of the new limits on the driving sector, warning of potential driver shortages if HGV licenses are affected.
These drivers should be limited to cars with smaller engines, too many [are] driving super-powered cars with lower suspension and huge exhaust pipes...there needs to be serious insurance consequences.
The daily experience of IRHA members and drivers should be listened to and taken into account. We're constantly seeing competitions of cars trying to race our vehicles.
