"Auto shows have long been magnets for manufacturers and the general public in Germany. The first one displayed eight motor vehicles in Berlin in 1897. The shows expanded as the industry grew and more people bought cars. In the early 2000s, the Frankfurt International Motor Show had grown to around 2,000 exhibitors and brought in a million visitors. But slowly some manufacturers opted to stay away and those who stayed reduced their presence."
"Now after rebranding and moving to Munich in 2021, the International Mobility Show Germany (IAA Mobility), is again set to open September 9-14, 2025. The event, which is organized by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), is split into two parts. One for industry specialists and another with outdoor public events throughout the city including test drives and new vehicle presentations."
Auto shows in Germany began in 1897 and grew to major events such as the early-2000s Frankfurt Motor Show with about 2,000 exhibitors and one million visitors. Attendance later fell as some manufacturers reduced or withdrew their presence, prompting questions about relevance and cost. Organizers rebranded and moved the event to Munich as IAA Mobility, scheduled for September 9–14, 2025 and organized by the VDA. The format is split between industry-only forums and outdoor public events with test drives and vehicle presentations. The program now includes automakers, software developers, suppliers, bikes, scooters and micromobility, and addresses self-driving, AI and the move away from internal combustion engines.
