The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of about 85,000 Explorer Police Interceptor Utility vehicles due to potential engine failures that could lead to fires.
Reports indicate that 13 under-hood fires have occurred in North America among these vehicles, attributed to breaches in the engine block of 3.3L engine models made before June 2022.
Ford stated that although there are reports of engine issues, there have been no known accidents or injuries associated with this problem, highlighting a need for ongoing vigilance from vehicle owners.
As part of the recall process, Ford will inform vehicle owners about the ongoing investigation and how to minimize risks until a service remedy is developed.
