The chase happened when the vehicle crashed into the overpass wall and a pole on the 29th Avenue off-ramp from northbound Interstate 880, San Leandro police spokesperson Lt. Abe Teng said in a statement.
The crash caused the stolen vehicle to go ablaze and become fully engulfed in flames, but all three people in the vehicle were out of it before that happened, Teng said.
