Ex-footballer Anthony Stokes jailed after he was caught with almost 4k of cocaine following high-speed garda chase

Former Republic of Ireland footballer Anthony Stokes has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for possessing nearly €4,000 worth of cocaine and leading police on a high-speed chase. The judge deemed the offence severe, especially as Stokes was already out on bail when he was later found with 86 pills in Dublin, prompting the refusal to suspend the sentence.

The court heard that during the reckless pursuit, Stokes reached speeds of up to 160kmh, endangering lives and showing blatant disregard for the law. This incident occurred while he was also over the drink-driving limit, indicating a pattern of irresponsible behavior that directly influenced the judge's sentencing decision.
