Tesla is facing backlash as some owners sell their vehicles due to dissatisfaction with CEO Elon Musk's association with DOGE, which they feel conflicts with their values. In interviews with four former Tesla owners, many expressed embarrassment about their association with the brand and concerns over Musk's influence on the government. Protests and vandalism targeting Tesla have increased, even as some public figures express support for Musk. The trend reflects a growing rift between Tesla's core customer base and Musk's controversial actions.
"I sold my Tesla because I found it no longer reflects my values. I was embarrassed to be seen driving it," Scott Oran, a real estate developer who lives near Boston, told Business Insider.
"I saw its sale as a protest against Elon Musk and his work at DOGE. Musk was not elected. He's gutting our American government," he said.
