Tesla has announced that customers who purchased the Full Self-Driving package will receive free upgrades from Hardware 3 to Hardware 4. During a recent earnings call, Elon Musk confirmed that the transition would be challenging but necessary. He acknowledged that the number of customers who have opted for the FSD package is relatively low, which might mitigate potential operational difficulties. Meanwhile, Tesla’s CFO highlighted ongoing improvements and updates for Hardware 3, emphasizing that the company has not abandoned its development efforts, ensuring support continues for existing customers even as Hardware 4 is rolled out.
I mean, I think the honest answer is that we're going to have to upgrade people's Hardware 3 computers for those that have bought Full Self-Driving, and that is the honest answer, and that's going to be painful and difficult, but we'll get it done.
We released the 12.6 release recently, which was like a baby V13, but it's a significant improvement compared to what they had previously. People are still finding ways to distill larger models in the smaller models.
