Jaguar Land Rover has recalled nearly 21,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a significant defect in front passenger airbags that could lead to serious injuries. The issue affects 20,999 Range Rover Evoque SUVs from model years 2021 to 2025, potentially causing airbags to tear open and fail during crashes. The company advises owners to schedule repairs, and dealers will replace the defective airbag module at no cost. The defect was identified during testing, and a formal safety issue was acknowledged in June 2023.
The issue could have devastating consequences in a crash, as it could tear open and fail to protect occupants, raising the risk of serious injury.
A total of 20,999 Range Rover Evoque SUVs, spanning model years 2021 through 2025, are impacted by the faulty airbag defect.
Although no injuries or crashes have been reported so far, the British car giant is urging owners to book into dealers for a free fix.
Affected airbags were manufactured by Joyson Safety Systems Hungary, and dealers will replace the airbag module free of charge.
