A New Polestar 2 Is Coming Sooner Than We Thought
"Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers, said Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO. Bringing the next generation of this iconic car at record speed, by the start of next year, is very exciting. The car that we became known for will play a key role in our future success, he added."
"The car company's most affordable model debuted in 2020 as a Chinese-built EV. Because of its manufacturing roots, the EV was discontinued in the United States last year due to the Trump Administration's hiked import tariffs, but the battery-powered sedan is still going strong in Europe and other parts of the world. Last year, the European-spec Polestar 2 got another mild facelift to keep it up to date until early next year, when its successor will go into production."
"The first-gen sedan got a big update under the skin in 2023, when it got a bigger battery version and went from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive for the single-motor variants. Polestar finished 2025 strong, posting its best-ever sales figures. A big chunk of the company's success was due to the new Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 crossovers, but the Swedish automaker still has a sweet spot for the Polestar 2, the car that started it all."
Polestar will reveal the second-generation Polestar 2 electric sedan in early 2027 and aims to bring the new model to market at record speed. The Polestar 2 has sold over 190,000 units and serves as the brand's foundation. Polestar plans to launch four new models within three years. The original Polestar 2 debuted in 2020 as a Chinese-built, affordable model; U.S. sales ended due to increased import tariffs, while sales continue in Europe and elsewhere. The first-generation received a 2023 drivetrain and battery update and a recent European facelift; successor production begins early next year.
