'My long Covid turned out to be terminal cancer'

Olivia Knowles, a 33-year-old former triathlete from Blackpool, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) after her condition was initially mistaken for long Covid. Despite an initial indication of being cancer-free after a December stem cell transplant, she faced a relapse just a week later. Knowles, who had an active lifestyle, expressed a longing for normalcy and routine as she continues to raise funds for clinical research, emphasizing the lack of advancements in AML treatments over the past 50 years.
"I always thought that relapse would be a real possibility, but obviously, I just didn't expect it to be so soon," she said.
"Even if there's a speck of it left, it just regrows. And what regrows is basically the resistant cells, the ones that can survive anything."
