CNN's Christiane Amanpour Reveals She's Battling Ovarian Cancer For Second Time In Fairly Rare' Form
"The 67-year-old veteran journalist told her podcast listeners Thursday that the returning cancer was discovered in its earliest phase but had adhered a little bit to my pelvis. I have it again but it's being very well managed and so this is one of the whole things that people have to understand about some cancers, Amanpour said on Thursday's episode of the Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story podcast."
"Angela told me what it was and why I was potentially lucky because there were actually pain symptoms, Amanpour said. There's often no symptoms so many women don't know, so I feel that I was lucky. Amanpour was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer four years ago. Her relapse appeared earlier this year, and she is being treated with a two-year immunotherapy treatment, the New York Post reported."
"Her relapse appeared earlier this year, and she is being treated with a two-year immunotherapy treatment, the New York Post reported. Dr. George confirmed to the Post that Amanpour's cancer is currently in remission thanks to the immunotherapy. I wanted to say, listen to your body because part of the reason I got such quick care was because I listened to my body and went straight to the doctors, Amanpour urged. Amanpour has continued to work while receiving treatment."
Christiane Amanpour is fighting ovarian cancer for a second time, discovered early after she experienced pelvic pain and found to have slight adhesion to her pelvis. The condition represents a fairly rare form of ovarian cancer. Her gynecologic oncology consultant is Dr. Angela George; the disease was caught early because symptoms prompted medical attention. She is undergoing a two-year immunotherapy regimen and is currently in remission. She continues to work while receiving treatment and recommends listening to the body and seeking prompt care for symptoms.
