Dexter Louie, formerly a head and neck cancer surgeon, found himself as a patient after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma. His family encouraged him to join the Cancer Support Community, where he discovered profound emotional support that helped him navigate his illness. Now in remission, Louie gives back by sharing his medical knowledge with fellow survivors. Recently, the Cancer Support Community broke ground on a $30 million expansion to enhance support services, marking a significant milestone in helping cancer patients and their families in the Bay Area.
After decades working as a head and neck cancer surgeon near his childhood home in San Francisco's Chinatown, Louie was forced into the role of patient after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
Grateful for the connection and relationships that helped lift him through depression, he now offers his medical expertise to fellow cancer survivors and their families through the Cancer Support Community.
