Water bills set to surge by 36%, regulator Ofwat says
Briefly

Average water bills in England and Wales will increase by 36 per cent over the next five years, as reported by water regulator Ofwat, which is significantly higher than initial expectations.
Ofwat mentioned that the increase is designed to fund a 104 billion upgrade to the water sector, aimed at delivering significant, lasting improvements for both customers and the environment.
Southern Water customers will experience the largest increase among the water companies, facing a 53 per cent hike, despite the company's request for an 83 per cent rise.
The projected increase, excluding inflation, will mean households see an average hike of 86 or 20 per cent next year, with smaller increases in subsequent years.
