In response to new U.S. tariffs, China announced 15% tariffs on certain U.S. agricultural products, and Canada is set to impose 25% tariffs on $155 billion of American goods. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau criticized the U.S. tariffs as "unjustified," asserting that they would raise costs for Americans and risk jobs. The measures begin with tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods, followed by further actions. Meanwhile, the White House justified these tariffs, citing national security concerns related to drug trafficking, insisting that negotiations had not yielded successful results.
Because of the tariffs imposed by the U.S., Americans will pay more for groceries, gas, and cars, and potentially lose thousands of jobs. Tariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship.
Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn, and should U.S. tariffs not cease, we are in active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures.
