""I should not have to do this. The government should do the right thing and lift the exclusion that denies me the relief to my suffering that I am desperate for.""
"From the moment I wake up, I feel panic and dread. I rarely go outdoors or speak to anyone. Over the last 30 years, I've tried multiple treatment options, with little to no relief."
Claire Elyse Brosseau, a Canadian woman with severe mental health issues, is petitioning the courts for an exemption from current medical assistance in dying (MAID) laws. Despite her long history of mental disorders, including bipolar disorder and PTSD, she is ineligible for MAID as her conditions are solely mental. Brosseau, feeling hopeless and in 'unrelenting suffering,' argues that the government should lift the exclusion preventing her from accessing the relief she desperately seeks.
