The city is opening five warming centres at 5 p.m. Friday as frigid temperatures are forecast for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) well into next week.
The warming centres are specifically opened when temperatures are predicted to drop to -5 C or below, with windchill values expected to reach -13 overnight.
Walk-ins are welcome at the warming centres, and the city has assured that if a centre reaches capacity, transportation to another location will be arranged.
Environment Canada warns that the cold weather will persist until late next week, with daytime highs around -5 C and overnight lows hitting the mid-teens.
