""Pick a soft, calming song,""
""It's not annoying when you're waiting.""
""That is actually a very good exposure for me as a musician,""
""It was something that I honestly hadn't thought of before in terms of marketing or promotion or even connecting with people in that way,""
Music 311 returns for a sixth year in Mississauga, selecting 12 songs to play for callers on hold and calling for local artist submissions. Musicians advise choosing soft, calming tracks to avoid irritating callers. Classical guitarist Gaby Al Botros, who moved from Syria through the Artist Protection Fund, said placement on hold music offered valuable exposure. Mississauga's 311 centre received 225,365 calls last year and 175,965 calls so far in 2025. Pop musician Shanaya Patel said selection functioned as unexpected promotion that can create memorable everyday listening moments for callers.
