Senior citizens, told they won a lottery, lost $236,000 to a North Miami Beach fraudster
Briefly

Akiel Doman, 34, was sentenced to 44 months in prison for conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, following a scam targeting senior citizens. Doman's scheme involved misleading victims into believing they had won large lottery prizes, requiring them to pay upfront fees. Despite a prior consent decree prohibiting him from engaging in such frauds, he resumed the illegal activities, costing victims nearly $235,000 in total. He is required to serve 85% of his sentence, reflecting the serious nature of the crimes against vulnerable individuals.
Doman's co-conspirator gave the victims specific instructions on how, and to whom, to send money for the purported fees or taxes.
Unfortunately, it cost Doman's victims that cash and most of those victims were senior citizens.
