Quebec is extending its partnership with Airbus Canada until 2035, investing $1.65 billion to manufacture A220 planes. Airbus to invest $1.2 billion, Quebec $413 million.
Quebec's initial $1 billion investment in the A220 in 2016, as C Series, increased in 2022 with another $300 million. Airbus aiming to double the production to 14 planes per month.
Quebec Premier ensured that two-thirds of A220 production jobs will remain in Mirabel, where Airbus Canada employs 4,000 people. Average annual salary for Airbus employees in Quebec is $87,500.
Montreal Economic Institute criticized the investment in A220, doubting a good return. Vice-president mentioned risking tax dollars in the project = money gone, additional bets won't change that.
