PMRA renamed "Pesticides Regulatory Directorate"
"The Pesticides Regulatory Directorate will maintain the same mandate as the former Pest Management Regulatory Agency, focusing on the registration and evaluation of pest control products."
"The government has expressed support for changes to the mandate and culture of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Pest Management Regulatory Agency, aiming to integrate economic factors into regulatory decisions."
The Pest Management Regulatory Agency has been renamed the Pesticides Regulatory Directorate, effective April 1, 2026. This change aligns with a multi-year Transformation Agenda initiated in August 2021. The new directorate will continue to oversee the registration and evaluation of products under the Pest Control Products Act. Additionally, the House of Commons' agriculture committee has recommended further regulatory reforms, which the government supports, emphasizing the need to balance economic considerations with health and safety in regulatory decisions.
