Nomad Bringing No-Waste Mission to More Vancouver-Area Cafes
""The Harry Jerome location puts us right in the heart of a shared public space, which is very aligned with who we are," Kim recently told Daily Coffee News."
""The Pemberton location, which will include our roastery, is a whole new chapter for us in terms of what Nomad can be.""
""We worked directly with a recycling specialist to manually peel the plastic lining from paper cups so they could be properly recycled," Kim said."
""It was incredibly labor-intensive work, and it taught us the most important lesson we've ever learned: It's always better not to create waste in the first place.""
Nomad coffee shop, opened in May 2022 in North Vancouver, has not used any disposable cups, diverting over 220,000 from landfills. Founder Annette Kim plans to open two more locations in North Vancouver by 2026 and 2027, including a bar at the Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre. The Pemberton Ave. shop will feature an experimental kitchen and roastery. Kim, who immigrated from Seoul, aims to create a zero-waste cafe, having previously dealt with single-use cups at her earlier establishments.
