New Hampshire's Governor Kelly Ayotte has applauded the State Police's application to work with ICE under the 287(g) program, allowing local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws. The initiative aims to enable officers to question, detain, and arrest individuals based on immigration status, especially those deemed dangerous. This follows a model previously discontinued due to concerns about racial profiling. Ayotte emphasized the importance of collaboration between local police and federal agencies to ensure community safety.
We are pleased to see that the federal government is interested in reinstating the task force model, which would grant both legal authority and protection to our State Troopers when they encounter individuals in the Unit.
It is critical for state and local law enforcement to cooperate with federal authorities and protect our citizens.
