NDP MP calls on government to sanction Canadian companies doing business with ICE | CBC News
"An NDP MP is calling on the government to take action to stop Canadian businesses from having any dealings with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. Heather McPherson posted a letter she penned to Prime Minister Mark Carney on X Thursday, saying that the government should consider a number of actions against Canadian companies that have business with the agency."
"WATCH | Was Alex Pretti a 'would-be assassin'?: U.S. government officials say ICE agents fatally shot Alex Pretti at a protest in Minneapolis because he had a gun on his person and, according to U.S. President Donald Trump's homeland security adviser Stephen Miller, was a 'would-be assassin.' Andrew Chang breaks down several video angles of the shooting, moment by moment, to understand how accurate the government's initial account is."
Calls are made for the Canadian government to prevent Canadian businesses from engaging with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Recommendations include denying export permits for equipment sold to ICE and rescinding public subsidies or contracts for companies that deal with the agency. ICE has been deployed to U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Washington, Chicago, Charlotte and Minneapolis under the Trump administration to target individuals alleged to be in the country illegally. Recent Minneapolis operations involved armed federal agents, raids on businesses and homes, fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens, the detention of a five-year-old, and mass street protests demanding ICE leave.
