Summer McIntosh, at just 18 years old, made waves at the Canadian swimming trials in Victoria by setting a new world record in the women's 200-metre individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 5.7 seconds. This achievement not only makes her the first woman to break the 2:06 barrier but follows a prior accomplishment of breaking the women's 400m freestyle world record. McIntosh expressed her focus and motivation for upcoming events and continues to dominate with three world records in total.
"I knew going into trials I could do something special in every single event and I'm really excited for [the] 200 fly tomorrow and then 400 IM."
"This latest distinction gives McIntosh the third long course world record of her burgeoning career, as she also lays claim to the women's 400m individual medley mark."
