"In a statement on Friday, the Islamic Centre of Oshawa said the victim was a very dear community brother. Bala had lived in Oshawa since the 1970s, City councillor Derek Giberson said last week. He was the first to be a friend to newcomers to Oshawa and helped them form roots in the city, he said. Police have said Bala was a father, husband and beloved member of the local community."
