Kimi Antonelli wins Canadian Grand Prix after George Russell retires in Montreal
Kimi Antonelli won the Canadian Grand Prix for a fourth consecutive time, extending his championship lead to 43 points over George Russell. Russell retired after an electrical issue, leaving him furious at the side of the track. The Mercedes pair exchanged the lead repeatedly during the opening 30 laps, with contact occurring again after a clash in Saturday’s sprint. Lewis Hamilton finished second for Ferrari, overcoming Max Verstappen in a hard-fought battle, while Verstappen took his first podium of the season. Lando Norris retired for McLaren and Oscar Piastri finished 11th. Norris and Piastri started on intermediates after a surprise call, while most others chose soft slicks, and the strategy paid off early for Norris.
"Lewis Hamilton claimed his best result for Ferrari in second as he overcame a battle with Max Verstappen, who secured a first podium of the season. It was a miserable afternoon for McLaren as Lando Norris retired from the race and Oscar Piastri finished only 11th."
