An overnight house fire on Arborglen Drive in Georgetown around 4:20 a.m. destroyed one home and damaged two adjacent houses after what appeared to be an explosion that blew off a garage door. Neighbours climbed a fence and used a ladder to rescue two parents and two children from broken, smoke-filled windows before emergency crews arrived. All occupants were evacuated safely and one person was treated for minor injuries. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to investigate the cause. Police are on scene assisting with traffic control and state the fire is not considered suspicious.
We try ringing the doorbell, no one is answering. We heard screaming and screeching in the back,
We see the family of four at the window. All the windows were broken, the smoke coming out of the windows, and we're looking, and they're like, 'help me, help us, help us,' so we're trying to look at what we can do,
We're walking out with the kids, with the family, and there's just fire and the explosion happens,
If we were a couple of minutes more late, [the neighbour] and I would have been caught in the back as well in the fire because everything just exploded. It was just all in flames.
