Is Scarborough Toronto's next tourism hot spot? This new initiative says yes | CBC News
"We would love someone who's coming to Toronto when they get off the plane at Pearson, the first thing that they actually say is, 'I want to go to Scarborough. Downtown Toronto is really cool. Let's do that tomorrow. I want to see Scarborough first because it is a place with such great stories, such great culture, such great food,' said Howard Tam, co-founder of Destination Scarborough and founder of Eat More Scarborough Food Tours."
"The Destination Scarborough logo features the image of a door, meant to showcase a portal into the realm of Scarborough. "We want people to enter the portal to actually see for themselves what actually exists behind these doors, behind these walls. And we actually feel that's really important because that will actually bring more attention to us," Tam said. He created Destination Scarborough in collaboration with Scarborough Arts, a local community organization."
Destination Scarborough is a new project featuring a YouTube series and website to boost Scarborough's food and arts scene and entice tourists to the east end. Howard Tam, co-founder and founder of Eat More Scarborough Food Tours, says visitors should consider Scarborough first for its stories, culture and food. Tam says Scarborough is often neglected and many excellent restaurants are overlooked in nondescript plazas or malls. The Destination Scarborough logo shows a door as a portal inviting visitors to see what exists behind walls. The project was created with Scarborough Arts and maps local businesses such as Sisaket Thai Kitchen.
