Over one million Canadians visited New York City last year, contributing significantly to its economy. Recently, many of these trips have been canceled, with groups ranging from schoolchildren to newlyweds opting out of travel. The primary reason cited is the perceived hostility from President Trump, including threats to make Canada the 51st state. This refusal to travel is expected to have economic repercussions for the city, where Canadians previously injected hundreds of millions of dollars. The impact may ripple throughout New York State, which heavily relies on Canadian tourism for economic stability.

Nearly four million Canadians visited New York State in 2023, according to the most recent data available from the state, and spent more than $1.7 billion.
