Final revenue service demonstration testing on the 19-kilometre Eglinton Crosstown LRT is concluding after beginning in early October. Testing has finished without a confirmed passenger opening date. Over the coming week, a finer resolution of minor deficiencies is planned before the project reaches substantial completion. Metrolinx and the TTC are coordinating the ramp-up to passenger service. The line was initially scheduled to open in 2020; construction began in 2011. Technical problems and associated cost overruns have repeatedly delayed completion. Calls for a public inquiry into the delays and overruns have been made while officials describe progress as considerable and close to completion.
