Craig Berube says Matthew Knies' recent success is a result of speed in the middle of the ice
"I think, for me, it's his skating and the speed in the middle of the ice more than anything. I really believe that he's attacking in the middle of the ice, he's demanding the puck in the middle of the ice, and he's doing a great job using his size and speed going through people."
"He's getting good looks, he's burying it, he's putting it on net with his shot,"
"And, he's around the net. He scored a bunch of goals by being around the net."
Matthew Knies is trending toward a career year in his third NHL season, projected for 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points. He has 12 goals and 38 points in 40 games and ranks third in team scoring. Knies struggled early in December with one goal, three points in ten games and a minus-4 rating, then surged with five goals and nine points in eight games. Coach Craig Berube credits Knies' skating, speed through the middle and effective use of size. At 6-foot-3 and 232 pounds, Knies combines size and sneaky skating to dominate the front of the net while skating alongside top teammates.
