Community members attend vigil for man killed at Scarborough Town Centre | CBC News
""We gather here tonight in deep sadness, but also in love, love in Daniel and love for his family and his community and his church,""
""Daniel was just 19 years old warm-hearted son, friend, lived here in the community, a young man with a passion for learning, studying engineering, dreaming of building a future, buying a van, building a house, fixing up old cars. But what truly stands out is how much he gave to others. You told me that,""
""He cared. He gave. He loved.""
""We carry your pain tonight and we will not forget Daniel, your son, your brother.""
Community members held a vigil outside a Scarborough church to remember 19-year-old Daniel Amalathas, who was shot dead at Scarborough Town Centre on Aug. 21. Amalathas was found in a family washroom after police responded to a report of a person who had been shot and located a firearm nearby; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Mayor Olivia Chow attended the vigil at Malvern Christian Assembly and described Amalathas as warm-hearted, generous, and ambitious, noting his plans to study engineering and fix cars. Police later arrested two 17-year-old boys and charged them with second-degree murder.
