City's last minute email on Rob Ford Stadium closure was 'terrible timing,' coach says | CBC News
""This is ridiculous," he told CBC Toronto. "Sending [an email] before a long weekend when no one can respond to it or get answers to it or anything like that and knowing full well that Tuesday was the first day of school it was terrible timing, absolutely terrible.""
""Work to replace outdoor lighting at the Rob Ford Stadium in Etobicoke was planned after City staff and permit holders identified that some outdoor lighting fixtures were failing, creating potentially unsafe after-dark playing conditions," said Jas Baweja. "We apologize for the impact on athletes, families, and community members who rely on this important facility.""
Rob Ford Stadium at Centennial Park was closed from Sept. 3 until Oct. 29 for expedited lighting renovations announced by email at 5 p.m. last Friday. Teams and permit holders that rely on the field for home games and fundraising events were given short notice and are scrambling to find alternate venues. Approximately 14 high schools use the stadium during the September-to-November football season. City staff identified failing outdoor lighting fixtures that created potentially unsafe after-dark playing conditions and issued an apology for the impact on athletes, families, and community members.
