Canada Water pool reopens after maintenance woes
"Our club members are over the moon that the months of turmoil they endured travelling to alternate pools are at an end and that training will return to normal. Now though, we must look forward; I hope that our club will bounce back and that swimmers who left us will return."
"The Canada Water Leisure Centre opened in September with an eight-lane, 25m pool, only to close six weeks later. The council said it had found problems within the building, including a fault with the system that controls temperature and air quality around the pool."
"Southwark Aquatics Swimming Club previously told the Local Democracy Reporting Service it was losing around 500 in revenue a month because of the closure, which saw some members leaving while others were only paying half the usual fees."
Canada Water Leisure Centre in south London reopened following a four-month closure due to maintenance problems. The facility, which opened in September with an eight-lane 25-meter pool, closed after six weeks when faults were discovered in the temperature and air quality control systems. Southwark Aquatics Swimming Club, which operates from the centre, lost approximately 500 pounds monthly during closure and experienced a 10% membership decline. Members faced difficulties traveling to alternative venues located up to seven miles away. The volunteer-run club trains swimmers aged eight to 15 of all abilities, with members competing successfully at county, regional, and national levels. Southwark Council worked with contractors to resolve the issues and ensure the facility meets community standards.
