" if there's a way to do [an extension] for both sides that makes sense, that'd be great....We'll continue to talk and there's no place I'd rather be than with this group. "
John Schneider has had discussions about a long-term extension with the Toronto Blue Jays as he enters the final year of his contract. He prefers an extension that makes sense for both sides and wants to remain with the group. Schneider was promoted from bench coach to interim manager after Charlie Montoyo's 2022 departure, led the team to a wild-card berth that season, and earned a three-year deal that included a 2026 club option which was exercised. The Blue Jays are 303-257 under Schneider with three postseason appearances in four seasons. Daulton Varsho approaches free agency and is represented by Scott Boras, which makes an early extension less likely despite team interest; GM Ross Atkins is also seen as an extension candidate.
