Effective September 14, ten Beer Store locations in Ontario will be closing. This decision follows numerous closures since the start of the year due to changes in the beer retail market. Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail, emphasized the difficulty of the decision and commitment to support employees. Retail expert Lisa Hutcheson expressed concerns about the lack of a strategic plan or innovation to preserve the remaining stores, indicating a declining trend for the Beer Store's market position.
"This is not an easy decision and not one we make lightly," said Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail for the Beer Store. "All efforts will be made to support employees through this process in alignment with commitments and agreements."
"It's certainly putting the writing on the wall that there doesn't seem to be a plan in place to save them... There doesn't seem to be any new strategy or innovation on the horizon to save the remaining stores," said Lisa Hutcheson, retail strategist at J.C. Williams Group.
