Bars and restaurants gird themselves for looming booze battle | CBC News
Briefly

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has stated he will retaliate against American tariffs by banning the sale of U.S. liquor and wine at LCBO stores. He encourages promoting Ontario-made beverages instead. This has led restaurateurs like Jeremy Gaulin of Mati Inc. to stockpile American spirits due to high demand among customers. Bourbon, particularly, is noted for its popularity and high-profit margins. The challenge remains in replacing the tastes associated with American products with Canadian alternatives, which many believe may not suffice.
I have sent a direction to the LCBO to clear off every bit of U.S. alcohol off the shelves if these tariffs come... Let's start promoting more Ontario-made wines and spirits.
I kind of freaked out when I found out, dropped what I was doing, ran to an LCBO and cleared off the shelves just in case.
Bourbon and U.S. spirits have kind of a cult following... Canadian whiskey is amazing, but when people think of an Old Fashioned, they think of bourbon.
There's plenty of excellent liquor and wine made in Canada and elsewhere, and I believe we could replace American spirits.
