Dale Nimmo, an Oshawa resident, has until March 31 to secure housing or face homelessness after The Salvation Army's rental housing program in Durham Region ended in November. Over 200 former tenants are in similar situations. Despite reaching out to Durham Region for support, Nimmo and his family report receiving no response. His family members, including his mother in a rent-geared-to-income home and his cousin who cannot afford to take him in, have exhausted local resources and contacted politicians and homeless support services without receiving updates. The regional housing shortage creates significant pressure on families attempting to support relatives, with many unable to help due to lack of resources rather than lack of care.
