Air Canada is offering triple points to entice wary Europeans to fly to North America
Briefly

Air Canada has launched a triple-points promotion specifically for its UK customers, responding to a notable decline in transborder and transatlantic travel caused by tariff tensions stemming from U.S. policies. This limited-time offer, aimed at flights to Canada and the U.S., comes as air traffic figures have dropped, with European travelers increasingly viewing Canada as an attractive alternative. CEO Michael Rousseau acknowledged that while the company faced challenges in the first quarter, it effectively managed its operations, and analysts suggest the promotion may help bolster declining bookings.
We did experience some turbulence in the first quarter, however, we managed all of it very effectively," said CEO Michael Rousseau, reflecting on the challenges faced.
European customers ditching the US were instead choosing to travel to Canada, South America, and Egypt, according to Accor CEO Sébastien Bazin.
The points promotion also applies to flights via Canada that end in the US, indicating Air Canada's strategy to boost transborder traffic.
Bookings for flights between the two countries have declined by percentages in the low teens on average over the next six months, highlighting ongoing challenges.
