After a stranger helped him survive a heart attack, social media lets Toronto man say thanks | CBC News
"[It's not a] conversation that you think that you're going to have in your life. It was very humbling and emotional just to thank him."
"My nervous system was in freeze."
"Having that assurance and [someone] sticking around and giving that assurance was really special."
"We thought, 'let's see if we can harness the power of community and word of mouth to get the word out to try to identify this man.' For me, it was very emotional. This man saved my brother's life."
Brijesh Patel suffered a heart attack in Liberty Village after a workout, experiencing chest tightness, arm tingling and nausea. After several people ignored his pleas, one man stopped; Patel handed him his phone because the bystander’s phone was dead. The bystander asked a nearby pizza place for the address, contacted 911, stayed with Patel to comfort him and flagged down EMS when the ambulance arrived. Patel’s sister, Sejal, posted a video on social media to identify and thank the helper; both siblings were emotional and expressed deep gratitude for the man who stayed and provided assurance until help arrived.
