François-Philippe Champagne stated, "We came to the conclusion that these activities that were conducted in Canada by TikTok and their offices would be injurious to national security."
Champagne emphasized, "I'm not at liberty to go into much detail, but I know Canadians would understand...the government of Canada is taking measures to protect national security, that's serious."
He warned users to engage with TikTok "with eyes wide open" to potential security issues, advising that using social media is a personal choice.
In response, TikTok argued that the government's order "destroys hundreds of well-paying local jobs" and announced plans to legally challenge the shutdown.
