A Toronto parks and recreation employee died on duty Wednesday morning at the Oakridge Community Recreation Centre in Scarborough following a suspected medical emergency. Toronto police and Ontario's Ministry of Labour are investigating and responded to a medical call near Pharmacy and Danforth avenues. Police said information will be released only if the case is deemed criminal and that a postmortem and finalized cause of death are required to determine that. The city offered condolences and pledged support for impacted employees. CUPE Local 79 said the worker was alone, demanded answers, and urged enforcement and review of the working-alone policy.
