2 GTA mental health treatment centres for first responders a step closer to reality with new funding | CBC News
"This is about changing how we respond to injuries that are invisible. Too often people who have these injuries face barriers when they need the support themselves. These are the people who show up for us in moments of crisis. They care for Canadians when they're hurt, when they're overwhelmed, when they're afraid."
"First responders and frontline health-care workers especially face exposure to trauma that can lead to post traumatic stress injuries, depression, anxiety, addiction, and other mental health challenges."
"The two new treatment facilities will be located in Toronto and Caledon. Station No. 3434 in Toronto will be an outpatient clinic, while the Caledon Recovery Centre will be a residential facility."
The federal government is investing $15 million to build two treatment facilities in the Greater Toronto Area for first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress injuries. This funding aims to enhance access to specialized care for police officers, firefighters, correctional officers, paramedics, and healthcare workers. The facilities will help reduce stigma around mental health issues and provide necessary support for those exposed to trauma. Construction will begin next year, with one facility in Toronto and another in Caledon, both operated by Runnymede Healthcare Centre.
