Two Durham police officers, Sgt. Richard Flynn and Const. Brandon Hamilton, will stand trial for their involvement in a fatal multi-vehicle collision in April 2024. The crash resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two grandparents and their infant grandchild. The Ontario Special Investigations Unit charged the officers with multiple counts of criminal negligence. A judge determined there is sufficient evidence for a jury to consider the officers as significant contributors to the victims' deaths. The incident occurred during a police chase of a robbery suspect driving the wrong way on Highway 401.
