Woman and her dog survive fire that destroyed historic mining town Chinese Camp, but left homeless
"CHINESE CAMP, Calif. (KGO) -- As firefighters continue to battle the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire in the Sierra foothills, one woman with links to the Bay Area described escaping the flames in Chinese Camp as her home burned. Paulina Ken has lived in Chinese Camp for the past 14 years. She says it felt like her hair, dress, and shoes were burning as she escaped."
"Miraculously, Paulina learned Wednesday that Waldo survived. It appears he has an injured paw but is doing okay. Paulina said a neighbor of hers contacted her to tell her the good news. "I'm just so happy to know that he's still alive, I don't know how he's still alive," she said. "The whole town was burning and he's still alive. I don't know how injured his paw is a little bit, but my friend said he would be alright.""
Paulina Ken escaped the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire in Chinese Camp after living there 14 years. Flames reached her property and forced immediate evacuation amid police orders. She fled without many belongings and initially believed her home had burned. Her dog Waldo was left behind but was later reported alive with a paw injury after a neighbor's contact. Paulina is staying at a nearby casino/hotel, lacks homeowners insurance, and did not retrieve clothing or personal items. Her niece created a GoFundMe to raise money so Paulina can buy a small trailer to live on the property.
